Recursos para aprender inglés

Recientemente vio la luz la última publicación del CEFIRE de Elda referida a la evaluación y aprendizaje de lenguas. 

Una de sus secciones atañe a recursos disponibles en la red para la enseñanza y aprendizaje de alemán, árabe, español, francés, inglés, italiano, portugués, ruso, valenciano y, además, incluye un documento con enlaces generales de utilidad no ligados a un idioma en concreto.

Os presentamos en esta entrada el documento dirigido a la lengua inglesa. Como observaréis, se divide en distintas partes basadas en el tema tratado o en el formato de cada recurso:

Fichas de expresión oral en inglés (A2 MCER)

Recientemente presentamos la última publicación del CEFIRE de Elda en torno a la evaluación y aprendizaje de lenguas. Una de sus secciones está integrada por distintos modelos de fichas de expresión oral para la enseñanza y aprendizaje de alemán, árabe, español, francés, inglés, italiano, portugués, ruso, valenciano.

Estas fichas se refieren al nivel A2 del MCER. Las presentamos tanto en formato más adecuado para su impresión directa (PDF) como en formato ODT en el caso de que queráis personalizarlas o editarlas a vuestro gusto. 

Así mismo, es posible seleccionar aquellas fichas consistentes en monólogos, diálogos o conversaciones entre tres personas. En cada uno de los casos, los temas abordados por ellas se pueden encontrar al inicio del documento.

El modelo original seguido se debe a la profesora de alemán de la EOI de Alicante Isabel M. Orellana.

Everyday Conversations

Produced by the Office of English Language Programs (Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs) and the Office of Written Content (Bureau of International Information Programs), Everyday Conversations is intended for sixth- and seventh-grade students of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) or English as a Second Language (ESL).

This resource can be used by teachers and learners. Students can listen to and/or read dialogues in American English. Topics of the conversations include introductions and small talk, shopping, asking for directions, hobbies, and giving advice.

School Radio

Podcasts, downloads, audio, video clips and learning resources for primary schools. Most programmes from School Radio are available as 'podcasts'. This means they are available to download in mp3 format, currently for a minimum of 60 days following transmission. 

Teacher's Notes are also available as pdf files to support most programmes. They are added throughout the year to coincide with transmission times.

Video Vocab is a podcast published by Business English Pod for ESL learners who want to expand and improve their English vocabulary for business.

Each video lesson features a series of English vocabulary words and terms with simple definitions and examples related to a particular business topic. Brains On!

What makes children want to learn? Neurological studies show that curiosity makes our brains more receptive for learning so question-asking activities help students become better learners.

Brains On! is a podcast featuring science and kids produced by American Public Media. A different kid co-hosts each episode. They ask questions and go wherever the answers take them. Scientists talk to them about what they are doing and the things they think about.

StoryCorps is an independently funded organization. Since 2003 it offers one of the largest oral history projects of its kind. 

StoryCorps consists of more than 50,000 interviews from more than 80,000 participants. The interviews can be used as writing prompts, discussion topics, primary sources for research projects, and more.

TeensHealth belongs to the KidsHealth family of websites. These sites, are run by the Nemours Center for Children's Health Media, a part of the Nemorous Foundation, a nonprofit organization created in 1936 and devoted to improving the health of children. 

TeensHealth provides accurate, up-to-date health information that's free of "doctor speak". A team of medical experts reviews its content regularly to ensure the information is as current as possible.

The Literacy Shed

In 2012 Rob Smith, a Primary school teacher, built the Literacy Shed, joined by some collaborators such as Lee Parkinson and John Murray. Soon afterwards the website was attracting visitors in their thousands from all around the world.

The Literacy Shed is home to a wealth of visual resources collected over 10 years. It is an exciting site with a wide range of superb resources freely available to all teachers. The sheds are broadly thematic.

The Classroom Bookshelf

The Classroom Bookshelf is a blog which features a weekly post focusing on a recently published children`s book. In addition to a summary of the book, a related lesson plan and other resources are included. The Classroom Bookshelf provides teachers with a variety of ideas to help them incorporate these books into their classroom teaching. It is also a useful tool if you want to find book lists by topic.

Europe Comics

Europe Comics began as an idea of Franco-Belgian comics agent Mediatoon Licensing. It evolved into a 13-partner pan-European alliance, supported by the European Commission and held together by the desire to spread the European graphic novel heritage around the world.

One of its main targets is the creation of a collective digital imprint, replicating European comics’ variety, richness and originality, in English and digital format. This initiative strives for greater international exposure of European comic authors. Last but not least, this project aims to create a comprehensive European comics online directory.

Knoword is a fast-paced word game that challenges your vocabulary, tests your typing skills, and stimulates your mind. 

Knoword gives you dictionary definitions and the first letter of a word and you have to guess the word within a specific time period to continue. After missing a few, you have to start over.

Inglés americano 101

Canal de YouTube de Daniel Manzano con numerosos vídeos para aprender inglés (americano) muy orientado a vocabulario y expresiones y su pronunciación.

Desde la perspectiva de un hablante de español resulta interesante por su orientación práctica, por la referencia a multitud de situaciones reales y el esfuerzo por reflejar el uso corriente de la lengua. 

Así mismo, el hecho de que los contenidos se distribuyan en vídeos temáticos y de distinto nivel de complejidad hace un poco complicada su utilización sistemática, si bien como consulta o repaso de temas concretos es bastante aprovechable.

PhET Interactive Simulations

Founded in 2002 by Nobel Laureate Carl Wieman, the PhET Interactive Simulations project at the University of Colorado Boulder creates and provides free interactive math and science simulations. PhET sims are based on extensive education research and engage students through an intuitive, game-like environment where students learn through exploration and discovery.

The simulations are written in Java, Flash or HTML5, and can be run online or downloaded. All simulations are open source.

You can register and browse activities by simulation, type, level and language.

KinderArt® was created in 1997 by Jantje and Andrea Mulder-Slater. Since then it has became one of the largest collection of free art lessons on the Internet. 

It offers art lesson plans and printable activity pages, educational links and articles for art teachers, students and families. 

Lessons can be searched by age or grade or by medium/discipline/theme. Another section, Art 101, offers information on color mixing, art supplies, art room setup, glossary of terms (interesting for CLIL), 15 minute fillers and more.

In 1969 at a UNESCO Conference in San Francisco a day to honor the Earth and the concept of peace was proposed. First held in 1970, Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22. It is considered the birth of the modern environmental movement. Since then many people participate worldwide on Earth Day in various events to demonstrate support for environmental protection.

If you are interested in children's literature of the late 19th century, we recommend that you enter the Baldwin Library of Historical Children's Literature (University of Florida Digital Collections), where you will find more than 6,000 titles searchable by subject, author, title, topic, etc.

You can also download XML versions and read the books with comfortable reader views.

Martha`s True Stories

Martha’s True Stories is based on Martha Speaks, an animated series and interactive website on PBS KIDS. It introduces kids ages 4-7 to the world of nonfiction through interactive books where they can read along with Martha as they learn vocabulary skills.Martha's True Stories are divided into four STEM categories: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (environment, technology, inventions and measuring).

Within each category, you'll find two nonfiction stories about the topic, plus another kind of nonfiction "text" (instructions, recipe, a made-up website, and so on). You can review the words using the Word Bones interactive glossary. There is also a short vocabulary quiz for each story or text, that will help reinforce the new vocabulary and concepts.

A parents guide and a teachers guide are also available.

It's great to use songs in the class. Songs are often used in the ESL classroom to learn new vocabulary and expressions, and to consolidate concepts that they have already learnt. Songs help recognize sound patterns and words of a foreign language in a motivating way.

April Fools' Day

Stories are important in education and in language learning. 

Story Starters is a fun interactive tool aimed at engaging children and inspiring them to write by serving up hundreds of writing prompts in creative combinations. Three main themes (Adventure, Fantasy, or Sci-Fi) are available. 

Story Starters gives ideas for character, plot, and setting. Students may choose to use the notebook, letter, newspaper, or postcard templates for their writing and may choose to include a drawing with their story.

The purpose of PlayPhrase.me service is to learn English using TV series.

It allows you to search for specific phrases in a database of video clips from popular films and TV shows, like an online corpus of authentic spoken English.

PlayPhrase can be used as a cool tool to practice listening discrimination or to present new vocabulary while using authentic speech.
